German Sour Cherry Dessert Recipe
Ingredients:
½ cup plus 1 Tablespoons of softened butter
1 ¼ cup of powdered sugar
1 teaspoon of lemon zest
1 table spoon almond extract
¼ teaspoon of ginger
1 5/8 cup of flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
3 eggs
2 Tablespoons of sour cream
1 ½ cup of pitted sour cherries
Directions:
Grease and flour a 9 x 13 cake pan
Beat the butter until light and fluffy. Slowly add the powdered sugar until thoroughly mixed. Add lemon zest. Add ginger
In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Slowly add half to butter mixture. Add eggs and beat until batter is smooth. Add the remaining flour mixture, almond extractand sour cream until batter is smooth.
Spread this batter on bottom of pan evenly.
Space the cherries on the top of the batter allow some batter to show through.
Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Sift powdered sugar over the top when warm
Garnish with slivered almonds and/or serve with whipped crème or ice cream as desired
